Psychology Workshop- Thompson Rivers University (2017)

  • This workshop was centered around helping students learn different ways to study for psychology courses. However, I was able to use the study strategies for other courses as well.

McQueen Lake Day Trip (September 2019)

  • This trip took place on the first Friday of the education program. This entire day was centered around team building, outdoor education, and First People’s perspectives towards learning.

Equity Circle (March 2020)

  •  One of our professors at Thompson Rivers University named Roxanne organized this equity circle. It taught us the importance of letting others get to know you in order to be a successful teacher. By letting others know personal information about yourself helps build a trust worthy bond between people. Not only did this equity circle teach me this, it taught me the importance of story telling and how it can be used in my teaching practice.

Reflection

In the near future I would like to participate in more opportunities that will build my confidence for my teaching practice. The examples listed above have taught me a lot of useful tips that I can take away for my future classroom. I can teach students different ways to study. Every person is different and processes information differently. By showing students different study methods, they can choose one that works for them. For a very long time I thought I was studying correct, however, after that workshop I was able to find an even better way. I would like to pass that information onto my future students. I want to focus a lot of First People’s perspectives in my lessons. I want all of my lessons to have a connection to this, and the other two workshops that I took part in helped me create ideas on how to indigenize my classroom space, and my ways of teaching. I am really looking forward to the next year in the education program, as we will be going more in depth in this area.
